ELP Webinar Conference
"Taking the Worldview on Organic"
Part of the ELP Webinar Series
12-1 pm EDT
Organic agriculture continues its spectacular transformation from small, fragmented production niches worldwide to the most rapidly-growing sector of the global food market. Since the first Who Owns Organic report in 2003, both production and sales of organic food have expanded dramatically, not only in the big markets of Europe, Japan, and the United States, but also among countries of the Global South. Organic agriculture is moving rapidly into new directions in different places. It is more diverse and full of opportunity than any single image can represent. At the same time, the very success of organic agriculture is creating the greatest challenges ahead. This is the perfect moment in time when the organic agriculture community should reflect upon what comes next and how organic systems can meet their highest potential.  Michael Sligh, RAFI-USA’s Just Foods Program Director, will lead this discussion and offer an exclusive preview of the forthcoming update and expansion of the 2003 report Who Owns Organic. "Religion, Nature, and Progress"
Third international meeting of the ISSRNC
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

This international conference addresses the critical intersections of religion, nature, and progress in a multidisciplinary way, in order to give insight into the different positions of these subjects both in history and vis-à-vis the current debates on climate change, environmental policy, and cultural development. It is increasingly acknowledged that religions and metaphysics, which inform worldviews and notions of progress, have played and still play an important role in these debates and that a clear understanding of them is indispensable for policies and practices striving to solve the environmental, climate, and other crises. The overall theme provides a spectrum of subtopics and questions that can be engaged in a critical dialogue among various disciplines, such as the academic study of religion, history, anthropology, philosophy, cultural studies, the natural sciences, social sciences, economics, politics, architecture, urban planning, etc. Visit: http://www.religionandnature.com/society/conferences.htm
