LENS Mission Statement

Originally drafted at Eco-Justice Working Group Conference of the National Council of Churches, May 15-18, 1997

The following mission statement was approved by the delegates, consisting of four enumerated missions for LENS:

1. Develop and maintain various forms of electronic communications among synod-level environmental committees within the ELCA, most specifically including an email list.
2. Share the resources of synodical environmental committees throughout the ELCA in order to facilitate more rapid learning and efficient use of the knowledge and expertise that already exists.
3. Create and aid the organization of new synodical environmental committees where they do not already exist.
4. Engage in public policy advocacy through the preparation and promotion of issues and resolutions for presentation to the churchwide assembly.
